Tomato secret sauce
Prepared by Chuck Kashner, VBKG owner and living soil specialist
Tomatoes are heavy feeders with special needs. To avoid spot end rot or tomato blight and to maximize yields do the following!
MATERIALS NEEDED
FISH parts or whole fish (I use rough fish or panfish)
A couple aspirins (no idea why, just do it!)
Crushed eggshells from 4-6 eggs
A heaping cup of bone meal
2 cups of Dr. Earth fertilizer 4-6-3 all purpose (do NOT substitute)
2 shovels of worm casting (IMO = indigenous microorganisms )
2 shovels of compost (your compost! The bagged stuff is HOT & burns plants)
Mulch (leaves, grass clipped, straw or clean hay)
HOW TO STEPS
ALWAYS rotate tomatoes, never ever plant tomatoes in the same spot!
spacing 3’ dig a deep hole, add secret sauce, cover it with some or your soil
Plant your started plant, depending on how leggy tall they are, trim excessive lower branches and suckers because they do best buried deep. Tomatoes develop roots anywhere the stem contacts the soil. So, planting deep will form a huge root system to support HUGE tomato plants! Mulch heavy so NO soil can splash on plants. Companion plants Basil, cucumbers, green onions, marigolds
