I build, restore, plant & maintain both raised beds and in ground gardens in southwestern Vermont. I’ll do all the hard work, so you can have a garden like one of these. Let’s do this, I can help!

DELUXE RAISED BEDS

I build two types of raised bed boxes: deluxe or standard. Both are delivered filled to the top with screened super soil and are ready for you or I to plant. Deluxe raised beds have a 4” mitered top trim and 3” corner trim. Deluxe beds are 16” tall and are a great choice if you have nasty rocky soil.

I design larger gardens with 3 foot walk ways. Gravel walkways are an added option. I used 1.5” crushed round Wells Brook river stone for the base, topped with 3/4” screened round river stone for this garden. Another option is woody mulch especially if your existing soil is a loam or a clay base. Neither is mandatory but are really nice!

The Little Garden by the Brook

best raised bed garden in Vermont

Square foot companion gardening with successive plantings will maximize output from a small space. The garden kneeler/seat is for scale, no bending or kneeling with these deluxe raised beds. Bye-bye, sore back and dirty knees! Eat fresh, grow your own and close the garden to table loop. Less trips to the market is always a good thing. Kids love to pick and eat because everything tastes better. Gardening is not only about saving money, it’s about being able to know exactly what you are eating, pesticide free vegetables and herbs. Eat fresh, grow a backyard kitchen garden.

STANDARD RAISED BED GARDENS

Standard raised beds are two tier boxes without any trim and are 11” tall. Two tier boxes work for plants like beets, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, eggplant, peppers, tomatoes especially with a decent soil under base.

SALAD (greens) RAISED BED GARDENS

Salad raised beds are a one tier box without any top or corner trim and are 5.5” tall. One tier boxes work for greens like lettuce, salad mixes, swiss chard, green onions, kale, radishes, spinach, garlic, herbs, and any shallow rooting plants.

Below is an Asparagus garden where the soil was nasty glacial trash soil, orange and rocky. So, I after cutting the sod. I dug trenches and back filled with super soil. the Covid “Just in Case” Garden

help building a VT garden

This is a extra large in ground garden I built in 2020 during the lockdown. I call the “Just in case garden”. I brought in 16 yards of super soil and compost. Recycled wood edging and 30 gallon fabric pots were used to define growing areas to keep their Black Lab out of the growing areas . This would be an example of a salad box 1 tier garden.

This is the Homestead Garden I built in 2010. It had excellent loamy soil and did very well without a soil dump. The water tower was to capture water out of the brook because of the distance from the house. A true homesteader!
